The History of Wax Seals

Sep 25, 2022

Oh, the allure of refined elegance. Wax seals are an age old embellishment that adds a distinct flair to wedding invitations. While often thought of as a vintage style, wax seals can be used to create invitations that are classic, modern, or even rustic.

A long rich history

Wax seals date back to the 12th century and were once used to authenticate documents. Seals were also used as a sign of status and power. Over time, wax seals became more decorative and were used as a way to add a personal touch to letters and invitations.

Wax seals are created by melting a wax stick over a lit candle and then dripping the wax onto the envelope. Once the wax has cooled, a seal is pressed into the wax. The most common type of seal is made from brass or copper and has a design or monogram.

Wax seals add a touch of luxury to wedding invitations and make them stand out from the crowd. If you’re looking for a way to add a little something extra to your invitations, consider using wax seals.
